Description of the format:
Heritage 97 is a Magic the Gathering Format that mixes old School and the first sets of premodern. This allows to play games that have the Old School classic mtg feel but with added variety and mechanics the came to be during the next few years of the game. The objective of this casual format is to create a very diverse meta in which lots of decks are playable and most importantly: enjoyable. This format is also heavily inspired in the Legacy96 format created also by spanish players.

Rules:
Ancient 97 works with the current Magic the Gathering rules as of 2025.
Mana burn exists.

Deck building rules:
Each deck must be 60 card minimum, and the sideboard can be composed of up to 15 cards. There must not more than 4 copies of any given card with the same english name in the main deck and sideboard together, and no more than 1 copy of any restricted card.

Only cards with the old frame and with art printed in the legal sets are allowed (proxies are fully allowed as long as they represent legal cards as we want everyone to be able to choose from every card for their decks, as this is a casually run format)

Descripción del formato:

Heritage 97 es un formato de Magic: The Gathering que mezcla Old School y los primeros sets de Premodern. Esto permite jugar partidas que mantienen la sensación clásica del Old School MTG, pero con la variedad y las mecánicas que surgieron en los primeros años del juego. El objetivo de este formato casual es crear un metajuego muy diverso en el que muchos mazos sean jugables y, sobre todo, disfrutables. Este formato también está fuertemente inspirado en el formato Legacy 96, creado también por jugadores españoles.

Reglas:
Ancient 97 utiliza las reglas actuales de Magic: The Gathering a fecha de 2025.
El mana burn existe.

Reglas de construcción de mazo:
Cada mazo debe tener un mínimo de 60 cartas, y el banquillo puede componerse de hasta 15 cartas. No puede haber más de 4 copias de una misma carta con el mismo nombre en inglés entre el mazo principal y el banquillo combinados, ni más de 1 copia de cualquier carta restringida.

Solo se permiten cartas con el marco antiguo y con ilustraciones impresas en los sets legales (las proxies están totalmente permitidas siempre que representen cartas legales, ya que queremos que todo el mundo pueda elegir entre todas  las cartas para sus mazos, ya que este es un formato gestionado de manera no oficial).

Our Philosophy on card Banning/Restriction

                    Why do certain cards get banned/restricted?

We consider that a card should get banned because;

It's an ante card

It makes for unfun mechanics that gets the other players not to enjoy the game (we are talking about unstoppable turn 1 combo wins more than anything)

Some cards would just be in every deck for how broken they are, damaging the deckbuilding possibilities, for example, every deck would benefit greatly from having a black lotus, maybe or moxes, therefore decks would almost always have sort of "reserved" spots for these cards, that's just boring.

Cards that reduce the diversity of decks. If a card makes it so that a certain deck will win virtually always, so that all decks need to have counter options for that card and that competitive decks must only consist of maybe 2 decks should be banned.

What can I do to modify the banlist or the restricted list?

You can suggest that a certain card should be legal/banned/restricted, and help testing it and participate in the decision making of the process of updating the format.

You can also help refining the format by just playing it, and posting your opinions, decks and experiences with it.
